• Vector rendering of historical ornaments with repeats and specifications for laser cutting and printing

  • Initial situation - we have 36 photographic fragments of ornament from the facade of a 19th century building and 9 scans of restoration drawings (some of the sheets are skewed and noisy). The ornaments need to be restored and brought to a unified system in order to further use them in three environments - printing on vinyl film, UV printing on metal and laser cutting of thin-sheet brass. Now the materials are scattered, the scales do not match, the repeating motifs are different, there are losses and distortions in perspective.

Subject area - restoration and production of decorative panels. Technical environment - Adobe Illustrator (or Affinity Designer, subject to 100% compatibility via PDF/X), control in Inkscape and inspection of cutting on the contractor's side in LightBurn (we will provide requirements for layers and colors).

The specific result is a set of vector sources and production files:
    1) 12 final ornament modules (each a separate AI and PDF) on a 1:1 scale, designed for seamless repeat in X and Y (where applicable).
    2) For each module - 2 versions: printed (fills/contours) and for cutting (closed paths, without fills, with correct orientation and line thicknesses).
    3) A single AI element library file - repeatable leaves/curls/rosettes as symbols or components, so that edits in one place update all modules.
    4) Export package - PDF/X-4 for printing, SVG for web preview, DXF R14 for cutting, plus PNG preview 3000px in width.

Limitations and requirements for drawing - lines must be clean, without unnecessary reference points, and suitable for machine processing. The minimum jumper for cutting is 0.8 mm, the minimum radius of the internal corner is 0.6 mm. Translucencies, brushes, effects, and profile strokes are prohibited - only real geometric curves. All Bezier curves should be smoothed, without micro-creases. The repeat must be joined without visible seams when duplicating 10x10. The color scheme of the printed version is CMYK, 2 Pantone spot colors (we will indicate the numbers), the tolerance for matching line thicknesses between modules is no more than 0.15 mm.

    Stages of work:
    - Analysis of source files, selection of reference scale, alignment of perspective by control points, drawing up a map of repeating elements and loss zones.
    - Finish vectorization with restoration of lost areas based on symmetries and repeatable motifs, normalization of thicknesses and radii.
    - Setting up repeats and checking seamlessness, preparing two production versions (printing/cutting) and exporting to the required formats.
    - Final control - checking the closedness of the contours, the absence of self-intersections, compliance with the minimum jumpers and dimensions.

    Measurable acceptance criteria:
    - All 12 modules open in Illustrator without warning, each AI weighs up to 50 MB.
    - In the cutting version - 0 open contours and 0 self-intersections (check through the function of combining/checking contours and test import into LightBurn).
    - Seamlessness confirmed - previews of 10x10 tiles for each module are provided, on which no gaps/displacements are visible.
    - The number of support points is optimized - no more than 1200 points per module (with the exception of the 2 most complex ones, up to 1800), without loss of shape.
    - Restrictions on minimum jumpers and radii are observed, a size table with 10 control measurements per module is attached.

We will provide - original JPG/PNG, PDF scans, Pantone chart, 1:1 overall dimensions and contractor's layer requirements (line colors for cutting and engraving).
