Help first-time users find their way around your app

An install does not mean someone understands the app's value.A new user may stop at a permission request, struggle with sign-up or fail to find the action they came for. Before bringing in the next wave of users, check the first steps with workers who have not seen the app before. A microtask can ask them to complete the welcome screens and reach one useful feature. Their reports show where explanations fail and which steps could be simpler. This is a check of the experience, not a way to inflate installs or store ratings.

任务标题
Test an app's first launch and a useful feature
工人应该做什么?
  1. Install the specified version using an official link or an agreed safe testing channel. Record your phone model, system and app version. Do not disable device protection.
  2. Follow the welcome screens. Explain the app's value and permission requests in your own words. Do not grant sensitive permissions; note what happens when you decline.
  3. Use the test login supplied by the customer or an approved test registration environment. Find the useful feature specified in the task. Do not buy a subscription or provide real identity documents or banking details.
  4. Show the screen you reached and describe where you needed help or encountered an error. If the journey was straightforward, say so. Do not publish a store rating or review.
如何证明结果
Include the device model, system and app versions, your steps, and a screenshot of the final screen or difficulty. Hide test passwords and personal information. Explain the first-launch experience; praise is not required.

Use the reports to improve the first-time experience

Separate technical failures from unclear explanations. If someone cannot log in, reproduce the error first. If they log in but do not know what to do next, revisit labels and the order of welcome screens. After a change, give the same journey to people who have not seen the app. Compare whether they reach the first useful action. Measure retention separately with ordinary users: a paid test cannot tell you whether someone will choose to return a week later.

Workers are paid for testing and reporting, not for purchases or favourable opinions. Their feedback can reveal problems, but cannot guarantee more sales or higher search rankings. A small group of paid testers does not replace research with your target audience.

What you can learn about the first few minutes

Check first launch, registration and the path to a useful app feature. Collect clear first-time user reports with DitWork microtasks.

Is the value clear?Hear someone explain why they would use the app without your team's guidance.
Where do they stop?See the screen or requirement that prevents a worker from continuing.
Do permissions make sense?Find out whether the reason for access is clear and whether declining still leaves a usable path.
Can they reach a useful action?Check the journey from welcome screens to a specific useful feature.

What to include in a first-launch test

Choose one app version, one system and one final action. Participants need the same journey if you want to compare their reports.

Welcome screens and permissionsAsk people to explain the app's value and access requests. Workers must be able to decline sensitive permissions; do not require access to personal contacts, photos or messages.
Sign-up or a test loginPrepare a safe test account or registration environment. Check fields, errors and confirmation messages. Do not involve premium SMS, identity documents or another person's personal data.
The first useful actionHave someone create a test list, find material or set up a demonstration feature. Describe the desired result without explaining every tap, so navigation difficulties remain visible.

Small tasks that can improve your app

Check the first-time experience in manageable parts and keep old and new versions comparable.

Find a feature without tutorial hintsIn a test version, ask the worker to find the first useful feature without team assistance. Learn which labels and controls explain themselves and which do not.
Try the updated sign-up flowGive a new group the same journey after changes. Compare stopping points and message clarity, but do not count paid registration as organic user acquisition.

Questions about onboarding tests

Do I have to provide the production app?

No. You can use a safe test build with demonstration data. Specify installation, system and version requirements. Do not share administrator access or ask workers to disable phone protection.

Will this help acquire and retain users?

The test can reveal obstacles in the first-time experience worth fixing before promotion. It does not guarantee new customers or retention. Measure those outcomes separately with your target audience after the changes.

Can I pay only for favourable store ratings?

This journey is for testing and a private report, not buying ratings. Pay for completing the steps and honest observations. Do not require a public review, a particular star rating or simulated organic installs.
