See your online store through a shopper's eyes

An abandoned cart does not always mean the shopper dislikes the product.Sometimes the delivery cost is hidden, the right size is hard to find, or a confusing form error stops the journey. You know your store by heart; a new shopper does not. Give workers a small task: choose a product and reach an agreed checkout step without making a real payment. Instead of guessing, you will have the steps they took, screenshots and reasons they stopped. That evidence can help you improve the store before spending another budget on bringing visitors in.

A ready-to-edit microtask brief

This is an editable draft, not a published task. Add your resource link, adjust the conditions, and choose the reward and number of completions.

Titre de la tâche
Test product selection and the shopping cart
Que doit faire l’exécutant ?
  1. Open the store using the task link. Record your device and browser. Find a suitable product in the category specified by the customer and explain why you chose it.
  2. Check the product page for price, specifications, stock, delivery and returns. List any missing information. Add the product to the cart and change the quantity.
  3. Proceed to checkout. In a test environment, use only the test details supplied by the customer. On the live site, stop before submitting an order. Do not pay for anything or enter bank card details.
  4. Describe your steps, where you stopped and any difficulties. If there were no errors, say so and show the step you reached. Do not create fake purchases or public reviews.
Comment prouver le résultat
Attach a cart or stopping-point screenshot with no personal data, links to the pages checked, and your device and browser. For each error, describe the action, expected outcome and actual outcome. An honest report with no errors is also acceptable; you do not need to invent a problem.

Turn the reports into a practical improvement list

Fix purchase blockers first: an item cannot be added, the price changes without explanation, or the form prevents progress. Then group recurring questions about product choice and delivery. Do not treat every opinion as a proven defect. After making changes, give the same journey to a different group and compare how many reach the agreed step and where they stop. Measure actual sales separately using genuine shopper analytics, excluding test visits.

Workers are paid for testing and reporting, not for purchases or favourable opinions. Their feedback can reveal problems, but cannot guarantee more sales or higher search rankings. A small group of paid testers does not replace research with your target audience.

Useful evidence for improving your store

Find out what gets in the way of a purchase. Use DitWork microtasks to test product search, product pages, the shopping cart and checkout with users.

A person's actual journeySee how a visitor looks for a product without your guidance and where they get lost.
Reproducible problemsGet a page address, steps and a screenshot instead of a vague complaint about usability.
Reasons for hesitationLearn which product, shipping or returns information is missing when someone tries to decide.
A clearer work queueSeparate issues that block an order from preferences you can investigate later.

Which parts of an online store should you test first?

Do not ask someone to check the entire store in one go. A short, consistent journey produces clearer reports than a long list of unrelated actions.

Finding and choosing a productDescribe a shopping need rather than providing the exact product link. Ask the worker to find a suitable item, use a filter and explain whether the specifications support their choice.
The cart and total costCheck adding items, changing quantities and removing products. Ask whether the total, availability, shipping terms and any additional charges are clear.
Checkout without a real purchaseUse a test environment or stop before submitting an order. Have the worker inspect fields and validation messages. Explain in advance which actions must not be completed on the live site.

Two more useful tasks for your store

Once the main journey is checked, investigate one specific question that may affect a shopper's confidence.

Find delivery and returns termsAsk someone to find the delivery cost for their region and the return window without contacting support. Request links and an explanation of anything that remains unclear.
Choose between two productsSet a need with price and feature constraints. Find out whether the product page helps compare options and which details are missing. This is not a request for a public purchase review.

Questions about ecommerce user testing

Do workers need to buy a product?

No. A usability check can usually stop at an agreed step before order submission and payment. If you need to test completion, provide a test environment and test data. Do not ask workers to pay with their own money.

How is this different from professional QA?

Workers can reveal an ordinary visitor's difficulties in a defined journey. They do not replace security, load testing or integration specialists. Reproduce reported technical defects and pass them to your developer.

How should I choose the reward and number of tests?

Start with a small batch and one journey. Estimate the time needed for the actions and a detailed report, then set the reward and number of completions in the form. Use separate tasks with explicit requirements if different devices matter.
